Nature-based Enterprises Guidebook: A Practical Guide for Cities
As cities begin implementing ambitious nature restoration plans, biodiversity, and climate policies, collaboration is becoming more important than ever. Delivering nature-based solutions within ambitious strategic plans and policy frameworks will require partnerships with the private sector, particularly businesses whose purpose extends beyond economic returns to also create environmental and social value. Nature-based enterprises are uniquely positioned to support this transition by combining commercial innovation with nature-positive solutions that help cities restore ecosystems, strengthen climate resilience, and improve quality of life.
To support cities in building these partnerships, Horizon Nua has developed the Nature-based Enterprises Guidebook: A Practical Guide for Cities as part of the Urban Nature Plans+ and Invest4Nature projects, both funded by the European Commission. The guidebook equips local authorities with the knowledge and practical strategies to understand what Nature-based Enterprises are, how to identify them, and how to build effective partnerships that accelerate the delivery of nature-based solutions within policy frameworks such as Urban Nature Plans.
Featuring practical tools, case studies, and actionable recommendations, the guidebook demonstrates how Nature-based Enterprises can support cities throughout the planning, implementation, and long-term stewardship of nature-based solutions. By strengthening collaboration between local authorities and Nature-based Enterprises, it provides a practical roadmap to help cities turn nature-positive ambitions into lasting environmental, social, and economic impact.
